From the look and movement of a person’s eyes it is possible to understand what it is thinking.
We present a brief outline of the 6 positions of the eyes and related thought. There is a neurological connection between the brain and the eye movement, as also analyzed by NLP. For right-handers, the right hemisphere of the brain is the one not ruling that allows the development of imagination, creativity and intuition.
The left hemisphere is the dominant one, dedicated to processing, logic, and rationality.
For left-handers functions are reversed.
Observing the eyes movements of our interlocutor we are able to understand what he is thinking. The sequence in which the eyes move allows us to deduce its strategy.
The diagram below summarizes the six positions of the eye and related thought.
The scheme applies to right-handers, while for left-handers should be reversed.
VISUAL CONSTRUCT (top right) If the eyes are turned upward to the right means that the person is inventing a new image. This is something invented and not remembered. If you ask someone to imagine a green sky with red clouds they should look up and to the right
VISUAL REMEMBERED (top left) If the eyes are turned upwards to the left means that the person is remembering a picture. In this person’s head they are visualizing objects, colors, movements, and other visual information that pertains to your conversation. If you want to see someone do this a good question to ask them is, “what color is your car?”
AUDITORY BUILT (center right) If the eyes are turned to the center right means that the person is looking for a new sound as it could be the tone of voice used to say a certain thing. Ask someone to image the sound of a car horn underwater and they will likely look to the left.
AUDITORY RECALL (center left) If the eyes are turned to the left center means that the person is remembering a sound. The person could be remembering a song, the sound of a voice, or a particular noise. If you ask someone to think about the sound of their alarm clock they should look to the right.
KINESTHETIC (bottom right) If the eyes are facing down right mean that the person is feeling a sensation. Often when people say “I feel…” They will glance down and right, and you can know they are actually thinking about how they feel.
INTERNAL DIALOGUE (bottom left) If the eyes are pointing down to the left means that the person is talking to herself as when one says something to himself. This means that the person is thinking, he is asking questions to himself, or is planning something.
An excessive internal dialogue means that the person is not following the dialogue but engrossed in its thoughts, too focused on itself both positively (the person thinks that was good to do something) and negatively (the person thinks that will not do it).
To exit from the state of internal dialogue is enough to look up and pay attention to something
